services_book_publishingBooks are vital sources of information in which people of different interests and fields could use in order to broaden one’s knowledge base. Factual data found in books would enable us to keep up-to-date with the latest trends, discoveries, and inventions in the society. A book serves a lot of purpose and its importance is surely stressed most especially in school wherein most of us have our first encounter with it. Books provide a source of knowledge and entertainment and this could come in many forms… It may serve its purpose as a funny joker, a wise mentor, a romantic lover or even perhaps an excellent teacher. It is not only merely a reservoir of collective data, which increases an individual’s degree of understanding; it is also a very good source of entertainment.

A book may contain humorous material that could shoot up one’s happy hormones, or it may contain sad stories about a person’s endless fight battling with cancer. Some books are highly philosophical, which are perfect for lovers of wisdom and some are just plain simple and more on the educational side which is meant for young children. Basically, it only goes to show that a book is a very influential material, and it has the capability of changing one’s point of view and perspective in life. It enriches our understanding about certain aspects about the world and life in general. The more we read, the more we learn about the different forces surrounding us and books have become a sort of tool to acquire vast knowledge.

On the other hand, in order to be able to experience and read a certain book, it must be published first. When we say publishing, it is a process of producing and making information and data available for the benefit of the public. This can be done by huge publishing companies, which can provide multiple copies for it to be sold in the market. Authors, the ones who create and originate the content of the books, have a partnership with publishing houses in relation to the dissemination of the books for public view. In some instances, some authors are publishers themselves, that is, they are the ones who create the content and information in the book and at the same time, they are also the ones who disseminate it in the bookstores for sale. Of course, all of these need legal considerations and must be done according to the law. The process itself is a legal concept and any violation whatsoever with how publishing is to be done under the rule of law shall be treated with appropriate actions and penalties will surely be placed on the violator.

Publishing a book is a systematic process. Certain steps are needed to be done before the finished product is reached. Authors need to submit their material first to the editors to know if their material contains the quality that is considered sufficient before going to the next step. Once the material is accepted and considered possessing a lot of potential, the next thing is for the negotiation to happen in relation to buy the intellectual property rights and other legalities. This is to ensure that the author is subjecting his material for multiplication and distribution to the public. In addition, both parties, referring to the author and publisher, must agree on the royalty rights. The more famous and established the author is, the more likely it is for him or her to be paid with a higher premium by the publisher in the purchase of intellectual rights in comparison to neophyte authors and even perhaps less famous authors. After that, if things don’t go out of hand and continue to progress, then we move to the next which is the phase of editing and designing. This is a crucial phase in publishing a book since the whole packaging of the book is done during this phase. Issues such as the lay-out design and cover of the book as well as the structural improvements are tackled here. Double checking of factual data, proofreading, and improvement of sentence structures in order to achieve synchronicity in the book are also part of this phase. The type of the book will dictate how it will look and the design required for it. Certain types of books such as those considered as fictional needs a design that would match its nature. The next phase is marketing. One of the activities here is providing advanced information to the public about the upcoming release of the book. Last but not the least; the last phase is printing the book. The book is then now ready to be sold in bookstores in the market.
